FOOD REVIEW MAY 2006

Having been recommended by numerous friends to pay a visit to the Vanilla Pod Restaurant in Torquay, we enthusiastically reserved our table. On entering the Restaurant, the warm smell of Vanilla coming from the gently glowing candles in front of the bar, welcomed us along with the friendliest of waitresses.

Once seated and being handed the menu, the main problem encountered was deciding what to have! There were many dishes to choose from and all sounded particularly tantalising to the taste buds.

I settled on the Scallops with Red Onion Marmalade followed by Pan fried Venison Fillet on Sautéed Shallots and Red Plums with Red Wine Jus. After friends’ recommendations, I chose the very tempting Vanilla Pod Chocolate Cup. The handcrafted Tulle Biscuit Cup filled with Dark Chocolate Mousse, topped with Cream really did taste as good as it looked and the presentation for all three courses was outstanding.

The courses arrived at a comfortable pace, allowing the sumptuous food to be savoured. Accompanying the food were wines recommended by the knowledgeable waitress and the meal was complete with the Chef’s excellent homemade chocolates.

The complete experience of eating at the Vanilla Pod was something that I will repeat soon and will certainly recommend to acquaintances for both business and pleasure.

WOW!Absolutely fantastic! We had the steak which was perfectly cooked and tasted so good. For afters my husband had the Vanilla Pod signature sweet which was out of this world.I had the strawberry shortcake with clotted creamwhich was almost equally fantastic. The mood in the restaurant was excellent and the lighting was very romantic. We expected the meal to be quite expensive but for 2 courses each,a bottle of wine and a coffee for less than £60 we thought it was pretty good! Overall an excellent restaurant that has all the little details you would want and more.A brilliant little find.Would be a complete waste if you went to Torquay and didn’t try this food.I am a pretty good cook but have to say this was the best meal we had ever had.Though didn’t appreciate hearing that from my husband! So impressed we expressed our gratitude to the Chef himself.
